Relationship between Emotional Symptoms and Neuroticism in Primiparous and Multiparous Women

Abstract
In this study we estimated the emotional symptoms among late pregnant women and compared primipara group and multipara group. Another purpose of this study was to investigate the relationship between emotional symptoms and personality
characteristics
especially neuroticism in both groups.
Thirty six primiparous women and twenty five multiparous women completed two self-report questionnaires(the Eysenck Personality Questionnaire and the Symptom Questionnaire) antenatally. The Spearman rank correlation coefficients were calculated
to
determine the relationship between emotional symptom and personality.
In the primiparous women group, Neuroticism is positively related to hostility, but in the multiparous women group, Neuroticism is positively related to anxiety, depression, hostility and somatic discomforts and negatively related to well-being
scales.
Neuroticism, as measured, s suggested as a personality risk factor to the increase in emotional symptoms of multiparous women during the third timester pregnancy.
